Ready, Art Brut? Spinto Band, Top of the Pops! We Are Scientists, TOP OF THE POPS!

We Are Scientists/Art Brut with The Spinto Band
The Fillmore $30
San Francisco, CA
2 October 2006

The show started out slow, but with a pint-sized band called The Spinto Band who ended their set with "Oh Mandy". Their performance was energetic and reminded me of a more hardcore Beatles. We Are Scientists' performance featured a dance by Spinto Band during the set as well as Art Brut who came out for the finale of the show. We Are Scientists were spectacular as always and they were so fucking random. Chris drank Coppola wine, ran off the stage with his bass disappearing for like an hour before coming back, and wore sport goggles as mentioned by a random guy behind me who looked like he could be Keith's mini me. That same guy requested WAS to play every song on MTV. Keith, of course, was mad and stated that NME lies. That again was sarcastic as well. I wish I met Chris when he walked right past me, but his intelligence was just too much for me to handle. It seems Chris is the only one who stops to chat with fans as he was talking to some fans in line, but I was again elsewhere on the other side of the block. As a fan, it'd be nice for bands to take some sort of time to talk briefly with fans, unless they think they don't have any fans.

Now Art Brut pretty much kicked ass. I knew I was in for a spectacular performace especially when SPIN named them one of the bands to see live, and I am not regretting seeing them live not one bit. And their guitarist, Jasper Future, blends perfectly well with the band. Can SF fans move more? Can they mosh? Or at least head bang harder? I mean c'mon, it's fucking Art Brut, how can you possibly stand still and just sway a little. Boring, but Art Brut is way beyond boring. If you haven't seen them live yet, go see them because the venues are only going to get bigger and bigger.
