What a cold, cold day to hold an outdoor event. The festival was thought to be going a bit downhill for some fans due to Wolfmother pulling out. The day went by fast, which featured acts like Sean Hayes, The Like, Kinky, Coheed & Cambria, Rogue Wave, TV on the Radio, The Shins, Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and headliner Beck.
I've never heard of this Sean Hayes, but he was pretty good. It is a trio on electric acoustic, electric guitar, and drums. One of the bands I have been looking forward to that day besides obviously TVotR and Muse, was The Like. I mean c'mon, I missed fucking Rogue Wave to watch them and I wanted to see Rogue Wave live. They sounded beautiful as always, but they seemed to have so much fun playing a cover of "Submission" for their friend. Tennessee screamed like no other during the climax of the song, which was heard clearly by everyone. Her lovely screams make me jealous. She should consider doing horror movies. And no, they didn't scare me today.
I was disappointed that I didn't see TV on the Radio playing in my hometown the night before, but they were great. I was a little disappointed that they didn't perform "Ambulance" as I love that track live especially when it was performed at Coachella.
I have heard great things about Kinky and they were amazing. I thought I wouldn't like them all that much, but they're good as many other people thought so as well!
The Shins were everything I expected. They're certainly not my favorite band. They're great sounding live, but not a band that I'd love to see over and over again.
Now Muse was what I've been waiting for. They were amazing, but not as fun as Thursday. It is so much more fun when there is an actual pit where everyone can just mosh, but unfortunately the venue is seated. BOo!! They started their show again with "Knights of Cydonia".
Yeah Yeah Yeahs were crazy. Karen O came out wearing some sort of dragon/dino/Yoshi looking costume and it was hilarious when she put the cap on. I loved her converses too. Not everyone enjoyed them, but I certainly did. She was much better at the Download Festival than she was at Coachella, but then again she didn't perform "Art Star" because her performance of that track at Coachella was fun especially when she ate her mic.
I thought Beck was going to suck I'm sorry to say, but I changed my mind completely. I forgot everything about him, and all I remembered was that he was an incredible musician and he is. I don't know who is better live now, The Flaming Lips or Beck. Beck had miniature puppets representing each member of the band down to the little details like the puppets having a miniature screen for themselves too! It was awesome! So cute. The video that starred the puppets before their encore performance was hilarious. Hopefully somebody can load that video up on YouTube that also included "Snake on a Bus" because I was out of memory by then for my camera. "Oh Lord Raider, please give me the power to rock harder than Muse!" And I think they did. Nobody can dance like Ryan can either. Ryan fucking rocks. If Ryan was the headliner, I'd still pay to see him live. And the use of spoons, forks, plates, glasses, and the table was genius! They could perform live on just the use of those instruments.
