Margot & The Nuclear So and So's - "Skeleton Key"

I love love this song and just about every other song on the album. It's a solid album and will keep you awake every moment.

Catch them opening for South along with Something For Rockets at The Independent in San Francisco, CA on April 24th.

Band of Horses - "The Funeral"

Reminds me of The Shins, but more pop/rock. Personally, I enjoy it a lot more. Just released this past Tuesday (March 21st), pick up Band of Horses' latest album Everything All The Time today.

New Atlantic - "Late Night Television"

One of the new songs from this pop/rock band. Beautiful piano intro and voice.

April CD Releases

Tuesday, April 4th

The Flaming Lips' At War With The Mystics

The much-anticipated album from experimental, psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips, which President Bush was the inspiration for this. The Flaming Lips are known for their crazy and highly entertaining live performances, which feature animal costumes.

"The W.A.N.D." was released back in January and is currently available on iTunes. "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" will be the first single and will be commercially released on March 27th in the UK. The song was actually inspired by Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", which The Flaming Lips did a cover of on a tribute album. Highlights include "The Sound Of Failure / It's Dark... Is It Always This Dark??", "My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion", and "It Overtakes Me/The Stars Are So Big, I Am So Small... Do I Stand A Chance?".

Islands' Return To The Sea

Montreal's indie music scene keeps getting better and better. Formed 2005, this band features ex-Unicorns members, Nick Diamonds and J'aime Tambeur, but The Unicorns do have its comparisons to the new band Islands. They've toured with Beck done a remix of his song, "Que Onda Guero", and now they are releasing their debut album off of Rough Trade in the UK and Equator Records in the US. Guest appearances on the album include Arcade Fire members and Arcade Fire is always a plus for me. "Rough Gem", the first track I heard from them, is fast paced with string plucking in the chorus. Other highlights include "Humans" and "Don't Call Me Whitney, Bobby".

Tuesday, April 11th

Hit The Lights'
This Is a Stick Up: Don't Make It a Murder

Sounds like old Fall Out Boy, which sounds just as good as the new FOB.

Tuesday, April 18th

Exit Music: Songs for Radio Heads

Cover songs of Radiohead. One song that definitely stands out is Alex Greenwald and Mark Ronson's "Just".

Thursday, April 20th

White Rose Movement's Kick

What a stunning debut from the synth-pop five-piece from the UK that seems to draw inspiration from bands like Depeche Mode. With a name taken from a movement against Nazi Germany, you cannot resist getting out of your seat and start dancing with a John Cusack silently playing in the background. Their first single, "Girls In The Back" has 80s written all over it, well actually the entire album does. Other highlights include "Kick", "Alsatian", eerie "Deborah Carne", and "Cruella".

Don't miss their performance at this year's Coachella in Indio, CA on Saturday, April 29th.

Tuesday, April 25th

The Secret Machines' Ten Silver Drops

"Space rock". I liked their last album and was excited to hear new material, but I have to say, I expected more from them this time around. There were moments on the album like harmonies in "All At Once (It's Not Important)", but overall it didn't spark my attention possibly because I've heard it all before not just from the US' Secret Machines, but from bands like Kasabian and Athlete. Highlights include "Alone, Jealous, and Stoned".

April DVD Releases

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

Featuring Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes, White Stripes, and much more from Coachella in the past 6 years.

The Starting Line/Copeland/Gatsby's American Dream/Cartel/New Atlantic

The Starting Line Crowd

The Starting Line

Another 5-for-1 deal. What a night it was. It was sold-out and the line outside wrapped around so fans waited for doors to open in the rain. The thing about some of these bands is that you listen to their recordings so much that they sound exactly the same live. Like there's really nothing much special about their live shows, but then the sound is good. The Starting Line's sound was excellent as usual. The lighting for their set made the shitty venue, although definitely not as shitty as a certain other venue in town, look really good. They really gave what the crowd filled with many scenesters wanted. One song that got everyone going for sure was "Bedroom Talk", which includes lyrics like "I'm goin' to tear your ass up like we just got married cause you're all mine now". The lyrics are stupid, but it makes the song fun.

The crowd was crazy during their set. There's a crowd that likes to squeeze and push their way to the front a lot. It doesn't really make sense. If you want to be in the front, then arrive at the venue earlier. Haven't you learned anything from previous shows? And I'm sure you don't want to be kicked in the face by someone bigger than you.

Copeland wasn't a very exciting show. It's good that bands play live and sound great live, but stage presence wasn't that great. I didn't really get into their set that much. One band that does have great stage presence is Gatsby's American Dream. I'm not a really a fan of their music, but I enjoyed watching them. Their live performances outdo their recordings for sure.

Copeland

Cartel clearly has some teenyboppers. It must be because the lead singer is hot. These are all the new boybands, but without all the corny shit. Cartel was upbeat, but more pop than Gatsby's and got the crowd going. Cartel's music isn't that great. Songs that really pop out are "Say Anything (Else)" and "Honestly".

There's something about unknown/indie opening acts that make them so good. New Atlantic was a surprise. It's like many bands including Waking Ashland mixed into one to create an even better band soundwise. They've got a member that looks like he came straight from Waking Ashland and another member (a guitarist) that looks as if he were a "scientist". Did I mention that "scientists" were handsome? Although there's something about the lead singer Giovanni that bothers me, but he sounds like Melee and other than that they were good live and the recordings are just as good. And you can download some of them for FREE! Yes, indeed. Go to http://www.purevolume.com/newatlantic

Franz Ferdinand/Death Cab For Cutie/The Cribs

Franz Ferdinand (Memorial Auditorium/March 23, 2006. Credit: Me)

My shoes are fucked up because of the show. Waiting at 8am in the morning and standing in my new shoes while having blisters on my feet. Why do I even try to go through the pain? Anyways, the show wasn't THAT exciting. It had its moments. Franz Ferdinand was what I expected to be. Their show was highly entertaining and their incredible musicians, but their performance wasn't spectacular. The wait leading up to their performance ruined it. Although, I sure do love Scotsmen, especially ones that come from Glasgow. Anyways, the highlights of their show was when they played old hits like "Take Me Out" and "Michael", which really got the crowd going and they're two of my favorite songs from this mainstreamed band. A new member, which makes things confusing because I still do not know whether he is officially in the band or not, was introduced to the crowd. It's funny because the crowd still acted like teenyboppers. It's amazing how kids used to act like that towards boy bands and now they act like teenys when they see Ben Gibbard or Alex Kapranos.

Death Cab For Cute was eh. Like Franz Ferdinand, I got what I expected. Their performance was like how I thought it would be live. I was tired halfway into their set and was about to fall asleep. To tell you the truth, the music didn't make it any better either. I like Death Cab For Cutie, but I wouldn't call myself a true fan. It's just not my type of music. I prefer The Postal Service over Death Cab any day, but I do like DCFC's houses on stage.

Death Cab For Cutie

The highlight of the night was seeing UK band and "NME Award Winner" The Cribs. What a great live band. Most of the crowd had no idea who the hell they were, but it was nice to see people getting into their set. I definitely was. "HEY SCENESTERS! HEY! HEY SCENESTERS!" My friend swears one of the brothers was drunk especially with what he pulled off with his guitar. This was really an eclectic show. You've got a mainstream pop/rock band (Franz Ferdinand), an indie favorite (Death Cab For Cutie), and a popular indie rock band from the UK (The Cribs).

What A Waste

'With all this Jessica and Nick chatter, I'd be remiss not to have some juice on ASHLEE SIMPSON. A pal of the singer tells me she's gone back into the studio to record a new single for a re-release of her current album, I Am Me. Why? I'm told that Interscope Records honcho JIMMY IOVINE is on a mission to turn the 21-year-old into the next GWEN STEFANI. "He has given her what he thinks is a sure pop hit," my source reports. "It's the first song she's recorded that she didn't write." The source says that Simpson is lucky that Stefani is pregnant. "Gwen isn't about to do anything right now, so Jimmy can work on Ashlee," the source says. "The album has done okay, but he wants to add this single to really have it take off."'

Source: http://insider.tv.yahoo.com/insidetrack/malkin/

Ashlee Simpson will never be the next Gwen Stefani. I have total respect, at this moment at least, for Jimmy Iovine, but I hope that really isn't his mission. C'mon, after all that's happened with Ashlee and how there's been people who've stated that Ashlee really can't sing. She can't be compared to Gwen. There will be one Gwen Stefani. And I didn't know that it was Jimmy's job as well to take care of Geffen artists even though I know Geffen and Interscope are affiliated.

Congrats To Interscope...

... for signing Interpol. They may not be my all-time favorite band, but they sure are a great band. They were previously on indie label, Matador. And previously as posted before, TV on the Radio was recently signed to Interscope. As an aspiring music business entrepreneur, I'm quite jealous. Although, I clearly don't give a shit about "My Humps".

JASHON & SOFIA'S FAMILY

Yes, I'm aware that I spelled Jason's name wrong. Here's a promotional still of Jason Schwartzman and Kirsten Dunst in the new Sofia Coppola directed film Marie-Antoinette, which will be released in theaters on October 13th in the US. I love how they're like one big happy family. Jason and Robert Schwartzman (Virgin Suicides) or shall I say Robert Carmine now, being Sofia's cousins. And Kirsten being one of Sofia's good friends and having starred in Virgin Suicides as well:

Speaking via his band's official website White explained: "I'm headed to Japan soon for the last performances of 'Get Behind Me Satan', looking for a place to store the marimba afterwards. Maybe Meg's basement."

Please Come Back!!!

Snow Patrol Makes New Album Date

March 07, 2006, 2:55 PM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Snow Patrol will release its next studio album, "Eyes Open," May 1 internationally via Fiction/Polydor and May 9 in North America via Interscope. The driving, up-tempo first single "You're All I Have" will see commercial release April 24 in the United Kingdom.

The 11-track set features a duet between frontman Gary Lightbody and singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright on "Set the Fire to the Third Bar" as well as guest appearances from Posies/Big Star principal Ken Stringfellow on keyboards plus backing vocals from Scottish indie rock notables Eugene Kelly, Charlie Clarke, Jenny Reeve and Iain Archer.

"Eyes Open" is the follow-up to Snow Patrol's 2003 breakthrough "Final Straw," which has sold 479,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Highlights of the new effort include the synth-washed, U2-ish "Shut Your Eyes," the grungy, Sufjan Stevens-namechecking "Hands Open" and the anthemic "Open Your Eyes."

The album will be available internationally in a special edition featuring a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes footage from the studio and Snow Patrol's extensive "Final Straw" tour. U.K. fans who pre-order "Eyes Open" via Amazon.com will be entered to win tickets to the band's sold out April 12 show in London.

Snow Patrol is in the midst of a short European tour, to be followed later this month by seven North American shows. Among them is a March 17 gig at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, where the band launched "Final Straw" two years ago.

Here is the track list for "Eyes Open":

"You're All I Have"
"Hands Open"
"Chasing Cars"
"Shut Your Eyes"
"Beginning To Get To Me"
"You Could Be Happy"
"Make This Go on Forever"
"Set the Fire to the Third Bar"
"Headlights"
"Open Your Eyes"
"Finish Line"

Hey Jack, How You Doin?

I want to be hit on by Jack Nicholson. Actually, I don't because I would just laugh at him hysterically, but it seems some women may like it:

Kidman gets hi-Jacked

What you saw:
Nicole Kidman, handing out the first award of the night to supporting-actor winner George Clooney for his dumpy CIA agent in Syriana. "Wow, wow. All right, so I'm not winning director," quips the actor about his nomination for helming Good Night, and Good Luck.

What you didn't see: Before the show begins, Jack Nicholson prowls the wings. The notorious flirt spies Kidman and turns on the charm. After a brief exchange, Nicholson walks away grinning and Kidman plays it cool. But only until the actor is out of earshot. She smiles giddily, puts her hand over her mouth, and exclaims, "Oh, my God!"

Keira Knightley: I'm plain

2006-03-07 15:20:14

Keira Knightley felt plain next to the other stunning celebrities at the Oscars.

The British beauty - who wowed the crowd in a figure-hugging merlot-coloured Vera Wang gown at the star-studded ceremony on Sunday (05.03.06) - admitted she felt plain compared to the other actresses.

The star - who also wore a sparkling chandelier-layered necklace containing rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds - is quoted in Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I feel really awkward among all these stars."

Meanwhile, Keira - who failed to win an award for her turn as Elizabeth Bennett in 'Pride and Prejudice' - apparently caught the eye of legendary Hollywood lothario Jack Nicholson at the glittering show.

The 68-year-old actor, was seated next to 20-year-old Keira, and allegedly asked her if she had ever dated an older man.

A source claimed: "The old rascal just wouldn't leave her alone."

Actress Keira Knightly Feels Self-Conscious by Nicholson Snub

by Jack Ryan
Mar 7, 2006

Sexy 'Domino' star Keira Knightley was devastated she didn't even turn Jack Nicholson's head when at the Academy Awards, despite her stunning Vera Wang dress and fresh-dyed strawberry blonde locks, according to a published report.

Jack Nicholson, who is famed for his lady-loving ways, sat right next the 20-year-old actress during the ceremony and never even blinked.

Knightley admits his failure to acknowlegde her made her feel very self-conscious.

Speaking outside of the post-'Oscars Vanity Fair' party, she explained, "Eveyone's been asking if Jack made a pass at me."

"He didn't at all and now I'm getting a bit paranoid."

"Why didn't he make a pass at me?"

Keira Knightley was beaten by Reese Witherspoon for the 'Best Actress' category.

Fun After The Oscars

Jake is just too funny. From ONTD!:

"Fall Down Boy"

This is definitely Pete's doing. From NBC5.com:

Fall Out Boy Band Member Vomits In Salon

Band Member Stumbles Into Salon After Radio Appearance

POSTED: 3:08 pm CST March 6, 2006

A member of the Chicago band Fall Out Boy stumbled into a Merchandise Mart hair salon near the Q101 radio studio where he was appearing on Mancow's Morning Madhouse and threw up Monday morning.

The band member entered the Thomas West Salon at about 8:30 or 9 a.m. and made a big mess, a stylist at the salon said.

"I am not sure if he was drinking or what, but I think he threw up," she said.

According to employees at the salon, the young man was in the band Fall Out Boy and was appearing on Mancow's Morning Madhouse.

The owner of the salon and Mancow, a.k.a Erich Mueller, have been playing pranks on each other and joking around for a while now, but this incident might have been taking it a little far, the stylist said.

The salon did not call police, but a Merchandise Mart security guard said someone from his office went to check out the situation early Monday morning. No one was arrested, the guard said.
A spokesman for Q101 did not immediately return a phone call.

Still Take You Home

Oscar The Grouch

John Williams got robbed!! I thought the Memoirs of a Geisha soundtrack was magnificent and beautiful. Oh and I think Paul Giamatti deserved the Best Supporting Actor award too rather than George Clooney. Don't get me wrong, George Clooney probably did a great job, but Giamatti was robbed before! I loved those penguins.

And Ludacris saying that hip-hop is going to have more of a presence in the Oscars to come, well how can I take that seriously coming from someone who raps about sex and hos with ridiculous videos featuring strippers. Yes, hip-hop songs nominated at the Oscars is awesome, but just as long as it's not shitty like most hip-hop songs are on the radio. Most of mainstream hip-hop today are still talking about rims, bling etc. It's pointless shit. It's even more degrading towards people and the human race, therefore how can some people take you seriously? Stop this shit. I laugh at this. (Note: I'm mainly speaking about mainstream hip-hop) Sorry, but as long as these ridiculous and stupid types of songs aren't nominated then I won't have a heartattack.

Tuesday, March 21st

Editors' The Back Room

This UK band sounds like Interpol. A lot like Interpol, but it's a good thing. Recommended tracks: "All Sparks", "Blood", and "Bullets".

Tuesday, March 28th

Margot & The Nuclear So & So's Dust of Retreat

"A Sea Chanty of Sorts" opens up the album in a mellow tone. They sound like Ryan Adams at times and other times they sound like Switchfoot, such as "Quiet As A Mouse". Other recommended tracks: "On A Freezing Chicago Street", "Vampires In Blue Dresses", "Barfight Revolution, Power Violence", "Dress Me Like A Clown", and "Skeleton Key".

Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Show Your Bones

I'm speechless. I always liked the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but after listening to their new album, I'm completely blown away. It's still the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but even better. Their long-awaited sophomore album is finally being released and it was surely worth the wait! The songs are catchy as hell and it doesn't even matter that they're being mainstreamed by MTV because they've already made it as one of the best rock bands around. The current single "Gold Lion" is a sample of all the good things of this album. Recommended tracks include: "Way Out", "Fancy", "Phenomena", "Cheated Hearts", and pretty much every other track on the album. Catch them at Coachella this year on the second day of the music festival, April 30th!

March DVD Releases

Tuesday, March 7th

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

Even though Cedric Diggory dies, it is the best Harry Potter film yet. The action is non-stop and a variety of different characters are introduced this time around. Of course, read the book first!

Tuesday, March 28th

Memoirs of a Geisha

The book is always better than the film version, but with Memoirs of a Geisha, the film, is just as good as the book. (Review)

Replies Replies

Chris' replies on his livejournal to Pete Wentz:

well, allow me to retort.
what amazing damage control on your part. always the public relations man first, human second.
what you kids read on mr. wentz' journal was for you, not for me.
"chris if you want to talk the phone line is there."
this line is absolute bullshit.
the impression he is trying to give is one of an extended hand. if any of you pay enough attention to my posts on the dissolution of friendships you will know that my hand has been extended since august of last year. i have repeatedly emailed, texted, called, and instant messaged said dude. one email for every month. each email telling him that despite our differences and the fame and gossip i missed him as a friend. that i was always willing to sit down and talk, but im also smart enough to know when a motherfucker doesnt want to talk to me anymore. they just dont respond. (remember when we used to laugh about how that was the worst thing to do to a person, pete?) so i sent what would be my last email last month that ended as such:
"...truth is, i miss your black ass. its that simple. take it or leave it. i cant keep extending my hand and getting it slapped away. if you dont want anymore pestering emails, cool, i understand...but sometimes im just too dumb to give up."
do these sound like the words of a irrational dude?
are these the words of someone who is not making an attempt?
the previous post is a direct attack on a person who i found out this morning had betrayed my loyalty and tried to manipulate my relationship with one of the most amazing fucking people i have ever met. you tell my girlfriend outright lies and exaggerations then have the audacity to hug me like we're boys?
my response is HIS consequence for HIS actions.
i apologize to all the lurkers i blamed.
sorry, it was your hero who was responsible all along.
notice he didnt deny any of the allegations?
its funny how hes now trying to take the "higher road".
so let me get this straight? was the higher road when you were trying to have cyber sex with my girlfriend or was the higher road when you were telling her fabrications and trying your best to tear apart my relationship?

its funny how i go from being an amazing friend to a hanger-on in a matter of months in his eyes.

only when faced with an internet backlash does the phony have something to say.
only when prompted by his MANAGEMENT (yes, its true) to respond does he extend a hand.
"chris if you want to talk the phone line is there."
fuck you. shove your hollow words up your ass.
you've had my phone number for years. you may recognize it, its the one you're always hitting 'send to voice mail'.
its called 'accountability'. big people know what this is.

every word of what i wrote is absolutely true and i will not back down from my position.
you may not agree with my methods and thats fine.
what i will apologize for is the collateral damage. i spoke with an amazing friend today who is part of the band and i explained my position. to him, to all involved i would like to say im sorry. i had no intention of things getting this out of control. again for the cheap seats:
what i said about the way the fans were treated was not something i saw except from anyone but pete.
this is about pete, NOT about falloutboy.

a few days ago i said something to the effect of using a livejournal to communicate and how it was petty.
well, i still agree.
i tried being cordial about this but let me explain something;
i dont have much, but what i do have i hold close. and like ive always said, if you try to attack, hurt or defile what i love, what i have sacrificed for...if you betray my confidence and loyalty, well then you better prepare to get your eyes stabbed out and for me to attack you in every possible way.
yes, im fucking furious. yes, i want to punch him in his goddamn throat. and yes i am going to use every weapon in this arsenal of mine to bring to light what an insincere fraud he is.
is this between pete and i?
yes.
is this inappropriate for me to put our business out on the internet?
possibly.
but you have to remember, the way he responds to things is through his platform, which happens to be songs.
the way i respond is through my platform, which just so happens to be a shitty livejournal.
all of his songs are about shitty girls and fake friends and thats ok, yet if my post is about someone who has abused my trust then thats wrong?
so its ok for TBS to have song beef with brand new but its NOT ok for chris to expose pete for being the backstabbing ex friend that he is?

say what you will about me. i dont mind, ive heard it all before and better at that.
im not here for fans.
im not here for money.
i dont give a fuck if 2 or 2000 of you love what i have to say.
i dont make a nickle off of these words.
"oh but chris, you just want attention."
really? well, what does that get me?
weirdo glares at basement shows and 10 extra instant messages a day?
wow, yeah, that MUST be my motivation.

ive always told you kids to question motives.
me.
him.
and everything you come in contact with.

so what does he have to lose?
money. fans. fame. support and a life exposed as the hypocrite he is.
what do i have to lose?
internet fans?
well, im not here for the fans.
im here for the friends and they know who they are.
and you're not one of them anymore.

im sorry if i smudged the idea of your little golden boy but im not in the business of sugar coating life, and if you hate me for that, then so be it.
i hold myself to higher standards.
i will not clap for a fraud.
i will not extend my hand for a toxic person who no longer deserves a place in my life.
take sides, dont take sides it wont change my life...
because ill still be the motherfucker on the other end of this keyboard killing myself with genuine words.

can your heroes on twenty foot stages say that?

stay rusted bro.
the kids wouldnt have you any other way.

the end.

the absolute truth.
this will be the last i speak of this.
do not instant message me or email me about this anymore.

1. i will not back down from what i said. everything i listed is 100% true. believe it or not. i was there on multiple tours and hotel rooms. you were not.

2. i am not gay...although i wish i was because the amount of cock i could score in this neighborhood is astounding.

3. ive sold 2 books since monday. after printing and shipping costs ive made a profit of $10. yeah, im TOTALLY exploiting this to sell my book.

4. screw you guys. i play for team patrick.

5. jeanae is an outright liar. anyone who knows kate knows her claims couldnt be more false and anyone who knows that girl knows what an insane liar she is...but what can you expect from the yoko ono of falloutboy. shes protecting her sugar daddy. i suppose i have to respect that. she also IMed me today to apologize for the comments she made but then got a little bummed when i told her to, "go fuck herself."

6. this is a JOURNAL you turd burglars. im allowed to post WHATEVER I WANT. like the time i put my finger in my ass to see if it would make the orgasm that more intense, which it did (insert gay joke here) or the time i gargled with cat shit. see, i can say anything i want because its my JOURNAL.

7. is this petty?
yes.
is this immature.
yes.
am i 14?
god i wish i was because 14 year old chicks have the most amazing boobs.

yes, i did what i did out of anger and spite. was it childish? ABSOLUTELY.
but guess what? i only have one weapon in my arsenal. one. and his hand forced me to push the button.

so what have we learned here kids? dont try and fuck your friends girlfriend and if you're planning on betraying someone you better make damn sure you're aware of what theyre capable of because i will smash your fucking world with low blows and cheap shots if thats what the situation calls for. i will poison and rip apart your fucking life because if im going down you better believe im taking you with me.

its that simple.
but its the truth.

now back away from the internet you pasty bastards and go play outside. dont be afraid of that bright thing above you, its called 'the sun', you lazy lazy motherfuckers.

i will now go masturbate into a sock while listening to blood for blood so i can get a good and mean tug then watch my new minor threat dvd.

we stand our ground.
even when it hurts.
we stand by our words.
we smash all fakes.
we are not your friends.
we live deliberately.
we will kill for family.
we are all going straight to hell with smiles and middle fingers.
we are the fuck you personified.

we are the dirt poets.

Damn Madonna

Madonna was added today to day two of Coachella (April 30th). I'm not a big fan of hers personally, but I guess it's good to see what she's all about live.
